Warren family honors legacy of late son, a Mt. Hope hockey player, for 22 years. Here's how.

Less than three weeks before what would have been J.P. Medeiros’ 43rd birthday, the scholarship fund named in his memory awarded its 100th scholarship to Mt. Hope High School senior Tommy Godbout.

Godbout played on Mt. Hope’s ice hockey team until his sophomore year, when he received a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia.

Next step for ex-Bear Shay Maloney — a chance to skate for PHWL Boston

Shay Maloney’s hockey career, from youth boys hockey leagues, in which she played from ages 4 to 14, to Brown University to, most recently, a draftee selected in June by Boston of the Professional Women's Hockey League, followed a similar pattern through every step — keep playing despite the limits women’s ice hockey players faced.

"We didn't really have a set league to be able to have goals towards," Maloney said. "The goal was to get to college. That was the highest level that we had to look...

The Newport Gulls’ goal heading into the upcoming NECBL playoffs? “Repeat,” according to Newport manager Mike Coombs.

Last summer, a win streak of six fueled the Gulls on the road to their seventh championship in the 22-season history of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, following the relocation...

Cranston Western does what it does best and earns Little League softball state title

PORTSMOUTH — The Cranston Western Little League softball team had to do two things headed into a possible championship-winning game against Tiverton: Stay calm and do what it had been doing all tournament, and season, long — score runs.  Against a team they had seen earlier in the Little League Softball Rhode Island State Tournament, the Cranston Western players did just that, scoring in all but one inning and getting a dominant pitching effort from Isabella Marcano in a 12-0 victory over Tivert...
