Alysa Liu, in her return, becomes first US world champion since 2006
BOSTON — Alysa Liu and Kaori Sakamoto shared a long hug after Liu’s score was announced at the World Figure Skating Championships at TD Garden on Friday as Liu approached the Leaders Chair where Sakamoto had sat for the last three skaters.Liu put together a 222.97 – suitable for a gold medal, world-championship-securing program. It was also Liu’s first ISU World Championship since 2022 – just before she retired in April.The 19-year-old returned to the ice at the beginning of the 2024-25 season....
