Blog #3: Brad Marchand leaves Twitter

Welcome to Blog #3! This week, the Bruins clinched the Atlantic Division with their 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Oh, and Brad Marchand deleted his Twitter.

Marchand is notorious for his chirps on Twitter.

When Torey Krug was on the Bruins alongside Marchand, the pair played around on Twitter.

In addition to teammates, Marchand also sent quips to other teams, especially bad teams like the Montreal Canadiens.

But once Twitter users found that Marchand didn’t have an active account, many thought he was focusing on the final push into the Stanley Cup Playoffs with less than a month left in the season.

Marchand sat out in Sunday’s game during the B’s back-to-back on a road trip. Veteran forwards like Hampus Lindholm and captain Patrice Bergeron also sat out for maintenance days. It makes sense; it’s better to lose a couple of games after clinching the whole division than to have all your guys exhausted in the first round.

It also would’ve made sense that the crunch time to perfect your game should be free of distractions, but that wasn’t even close to the reason. It was instead all about the current politics of Twitter.

“It’s strictly because I’m not paying for Twitter,” said Marchand. “I don’t care about Twitter enough to pay for it. It’s fun to go on and have some fun every now and again, but I’m not paying for it. So I just deleted it.”

Marchand admitted that he will probably rejoin the social media network at some point. My bet is during the off season, which will hopefully be in July.

“I’m sure I’ll be back on it at some point. I’ll be bored some day or whatever.
